More than 600 people came together for a fantastic day of Scottish tradition, music and community spirit at this year’s Isle of Wight Highland Gathering, raising vital funds to support the work of Aspire Ryde.
Held at the Island Riding Centre, GG’s, the charity event was organised by Karen Eeles from Aspire Ryde and Kieron Cooney from Wight Hot Pipes. The gathering brought together visitors from across the Island and beyond for a memorable celebration of Scottish culture, all while supporting local people in need.
One of the day’s most spectacular sights was the parade of almost 100 pipers and drummers, with pipe bands travelling from across the South of England to take part. Their performances created a truly unforgettable atmosphere throughout the event.
There was something for everyone to enjoy, including traditional Highland games such as hurling the haggis and tossing the mini caber, alongside authentic Scottish food, whisky tastings and a range of family-friendly activities.
The entertainment continued throughout the day with impressive performances from the White Rose Highland Dance Team, the Shamrock and Thistle Dancers, the Scottish Fiddlers, and a fascinating historical re-enactment by the 42nd Highlander Regiment.
Music lovers were also treated to performances by The Crew and Wight Hot Pipes, whose unique blend of Celtic rock and traditional bagpipes proved to be a real crowd favourite.
The event concluded with a moving rendition of Highland Cathedral, performed by a massed band of around 100 pipers and drummers. The emotional finale paid tribute to this year’s Chieftain, Captain Ted Funnel, and brought the celebrations to a fitting close.
Aspire Ryde would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone who attended, volunteered, performed or supported the event. A special thank you goes to Red Funnel for their generous sponsorship, which enabled the visiting pipe bands to travel to the Isle of Wight, helping to make the day such a tremendous success.
Events like the Isle of Wight Highland Gathering not only celebrate culture and community but also raise essential funds that enable Aspire Ryde to continue supporting thousands of local people through its wide range of wellbeing, early help, volunteering and community services.
We look forward to welcoming everyone back next year for another unforgettable celebration.
