This summer, in partnership with Brading Haven Yacht Club (BHYC) and with generous support from Sport England, we’re proud to have supported 10 young people to achieve their Powerboat Level 2 qualification—an incredible milestone in their personal and skills development.
The training took place at BHYC’s RYA Recognised Training Centre, nestled in the heart of Bembridge Harbour, offering the perfect setting for young people to learn in a safe, supportive, and professional environment. Over several days, the participants developed their understanding of boat handling, safety procedures, navigation, and responsibility on the water. For many, it was their first formal qualification and a big confidence boost.
What made this programme particularly special was the diverse backgrounds of the young people involved. This opportunity opened new doors—especially for those who may not have otherwise had access to such high-quality training.
The success of this project goes beyond the certificate. A number of participants demonstrated such enthusiasm and skill that they’ve been invited to progress onto further powerboat development sessions, providing them with a possible pathway into volunteering, instructing, or even a marine-related career.
We’re thrilled to see how this partnership has helped young people grow in confidence, learn new skills, and become more connected with their local sailing community. A huge thank you to Brading Haven Yacht Club and Sport England for making this opportunity possible—and congratulations to all our newly qualified powerboaters!
