On Saturday 26th July, Aspire Ryde took part in Ventnor Fringe for another year, bringing two very different music performances to the Rotunda Stage in the Fringe Village.
Our Creative Hub music practitioner, Jess, who specialises in supporting people living with dementia, opened with Re: Connect — a music group for over-65s that aims to improve mental health and help participants reconnect with their interest in music. The set was well received by the audience, with people joining in on songs such as Lazy Sunday and Stand by Me.
Later, Jess performed again with The Rehab Ramones, a punk trio formed by musicians who are all in recovery from addiction. Their energetic set of Ramones covers drew a good crowd and had people up and dancing.
Taking part in Ventnor Fringe allows Aspire Ryde to showcase some of the work we do locally, from dementia-friendly music sessions to creative activities for young people. Being part of an established community event like the Fringe helps us reach new audiences, raise awareness of our services, and highlight the role that music can play in wellbeing.
Thanks to Ventnor Fringe for another chance to perform and collaborate — we look forward to the next one!
